Infant Car seat installation Question?

Hello,

I'm expecting my first child in a couple of months(!!) and I have been tinkering with the installation of the infant car seat and base in the back of my truck. My truck is outfitted with LATCH but the base of our MaxiCosi Mico and our Chicco Keyfit30 both extend beyond the end of the seat by a good 4 to 5 inches. Does this pose a safety issue having the base extend beyond the seat cushion?

Thanks

I'm not really sure but a great way to make sure your seat is safe is to call your local fire dept. and ask if and when they will have a car seat check day. 90% of the fire dept have a special days you can bring your car in and they'll make sure your seat is properly installed for you.

Have the seat inspected by a liscensed Child Passenger Safety Technician. To find one, or even ask you question with people who know, check out car-seat.org

Not all fire departments are TRAINED in installations and a CPST would have the best knowledge. There may even been a safety event near you that would be free.
