For my History of Western Civilization class, I have to write an essay covering all parts of this essay question but since my professor doesn't explain very clearly whenever he lectures and my textbook doesn't discuss much about it, I'm really struggling trying to write it right now so I really need help on it. Here is the essay question:
Martin Luther proposed the idea of the "priesthood of all believers."
Examine the implications of this belief for his era. Explain why the Catholic church saw this belief as a distinct challenge to its supremacy. To what extent did the concept of a "priesthood of all believers" also threaten established political or social hierarchies, and how did it do so?
