The Graffiti on the wall is good or you can do a dead flower going back to normal idk lol
paint or decorate a garbage can/pale. take a rock & polish it & glue some nice stuff to it. but take a picture of it before so that your teacher can see that it was ugly first. take a black & white picture of a littered street corner or something like that
write "something ugly" in beautiful writing

organize it--like a messy room (take a photo), combing hair smooth it--sand away @ wood polish it--like silver!
That's quite a good idea you have! what about a before and after scene like a derelict building made into a beautiful home!!!

I think your idea sounds good. Funnily enough I did the same kind of thing last year for my artwork =) You could make it look really scruffy and trashy and like it was in a poor neighbourhood, but write nice things about relationships on it, like about some friends staying together or something.
