    Help with Verizon Wi- Fi?

I have a friend who has the verizon Wi-Fi to connect to hot spots with his laptop when he travels. He also wants to use the verizon Wi-Fi to connect his laptop while at work to his wireless desktop at home. He did a network setup and both laptop and desktop show up on the network but he can not connect to either one. The desktop has a wireless card.
My understanding of the Verizon Wi-Fi is it can be used to connect from any hotspot while you are away from home, so I don't think you can use it to connect your laptop to your home desktop even if the desktop is wireless because it is not a hotspot. But he tells me you can.
