Am I Being A Douchebag?
Am I Being A Douchebag? +1, my sentiments exactly.
Am I Being A Douchebag? You're not being a douchebag. I bet these so called parents are going to let this kid ride in jeans and a t-shirt, too. WTF are they thinking? Why doesn't the wife ride the Sportster and have the kid ride on the passenger seat on the Dad's bike? THAT would be a good learning experience for the kid.
Am I Being A Douchebag? What's wrong with having some "common sense"? You're doing the right thing.
Am I Being A Douchebag? I wouldn't even consider it. Don't want to see the kid lose it or anyone else because of it. You did well to ride on your own. JMHO.
Am I Being A Douchebag? The parents need a good hard kick in the ass
Am I Being A Douchebag? If these folks are really friends, you should be able to speak freely about the law and your feelings about riding with them in the group. In the end, do what's best for you - its your hide that will slide if things go bad.
Am I Being A Douchebag? Good call...you have to ride your own ride. Hell, I know folks that have been riding 20+ years that I won't ride with because they take too many chances. By not endorsing/enabling that behavior you're doing the right thing... and you'll sleep better at night.
Am I Being A Douchebag? Follow your gut, that's usually the right choice. I agree with what others have said, let the parents know that you don't like their decision and why. If they or others think you're a D-bag, so be it, then again maybe someone else is feeling the same but hasn't said so due to fear of being outcast from the group and may step up. I don't know about other states, but (from past experience) in Oklahoma, if there is an accident and no insurance, the owner of the vehicle will be held responsible. Not that it makes it ok to ride/drive without insurance. Whatever you do, keep the rubberside down & at least one wheel on the road.
