Countdown - so much better these days!

I went to a recording over 20 years ago, so I can only really answer this question (it's the only one I know or remember the answer too).

The winning or interesting worRAB on the board are done when the end of part of the show is reached (or any other break required in filming). They set them up and then take a quick shot of Rachel (or Carol as it was when I went) standing next to them and smiling. These are then edited into the broadcast.

    Welcome to RAB!

Thanks for the info (and for signing up to answer my question!)

A few questions about the recording process (for you or anyone else who might know)

I love the show and have watched it since it started. but now, as if things weren't bad enough with Jeff & Rachel and football , this week Susie's at it along with Rory McGrath. That pales though in comparison to the the never-ending remarks about how incredibly obese Jeff is (he's not) and about how incredibly short he is (he's not). Repetitive, boring drive & not funny at all, I think. Rachel's shallowness in this respect is extremely unappealing.

How I long for the days of Richard & Carol (or even Des O & Carol). Come on Channel 4 - you can do better than this.

Me too! Like you, they're not my strongest skill, but I got it really quickly. When no one got it, I convinced myself I must be wrong, until Geoff revealed the answer.

The recording schedule is weird. I understood they moved from LeeRAB to Manchester in March, yet last week's finals were filmed in LeeRAB! Were the finals really three months ago?

I think they record 3 weeks' worth of Countdowns over a 3-day period. I went to a recording last week which will not be shown until mid-September, and they're now apparently off for a couple of months although the show is on continously on TV.

Nothing much seems to have changed on the set, except Rachel has a new hairstyle.

Yes. Yesterday's show was the first one recorded after a filming break of almost three months.
