One book that really made a lasting impression on me was the book Desire of Ages by Ellen White, also another book of hers, Patriarchs and Prophets.

Thomas Aquinas; Saint and Doctor of the church. When you read his summa theologica you realize what an incredibly intelligent theologian/philosopher he was. Add to that two famous quotes from him, he said he was "blessed to have understood everything he ever read." and the incredible admission that he left this work un-completed as the rewards of relationship and prayer were greater calling it (the summa) "as straw" If your looking for a knowledgable author on Catholicism he's your man.

Most knowledgeable author on religion, and why?

Who would you say is the most knowledgeable author on religion and why? What are his credentials, like PhD etc etc.
Which books in particular do you like.

Why do you listen to this persons views more than others?

And I'm not interested in stupid answers, like God and the Bible.
Natural authors only who are academically qualified in their field.
