focus tdci whining and battery light on? 2005 focus 1.6 tdci battery light coming on after 10 seconds or so, whining from under bonnet when revs increase, alternator casting red hot and burning smell from that area. Is the alternator shot ? This is the first problem I have had with the focus in 2.5 years, it's been a great car. No warning, just started whining noise tonight and battery light came within minutes of noise ? Not had glow plug light on or loss of power yet, just issues as described above. Does the engine bay make a whiring noise when the alternator is knackered ? Would you recommend second hand breakers for alternator at £50 or £135'ish for a new one ? How much does it cost to get one fitted approx ?
