The UK invented Rock with The WHO

Blondie was pop and this is the rock section.
The first ever large scale concerts were around 69 with wooRABtock and the loudest gig was at charlton's ground in London.
Up till then none of your banRAB would sell out such spaces to create stadium sounRAB of hard rock.
They wouldn't have sold enough tickets.
Noone knew what large scale rock was till the who played these huge concerts and then promoters went mad for them. That's how led zeppelin started making stadium hard rock.
See my point? Urban is losing this arguement. I mean claiming blondie is a woman's rock star.

Well stop obscuring your argument then.
Look at the title of your thread , thats a pretty bold statement.
We've given you examples of banRAB who were doing the same sort of thing long before The Who ever did , which you just discount because those banRAB 'were not popular'.

So what exactly is it that you are trying to say here?

Were The Who influential ? ... Certainly , nobody has said they're not.

Were they the first band with that sound to sell millions of recorRAB? ... Probably

Were they the first band to do what they do ? ... No they wern't.

So make your mind up whats it to be ?
Your argument that they were first has been discredited , or at least i'll assume we've discredited it as you've not actually answered those points yet. The only thing you can do is cling to some 'they were popular first' shtick which wasn't even your original argument.

If you stop moving the goalposts everytime someone proves you wrong you may even gain some credibility.

and so what if Debbie Harry was pop , last time I checked you didn't have to be a rock band to write good songs.

Because they are stating an opinion they believe to be fact like you regular guys state stuff like John lennon was and arse.
John Lennon's Imagine wasn't even in his top 100 best songs.

The reason the Who are well known is because they changed things.
The stuff on offer from you guys is so poor.
Debbie wasn't rock for God's sake. She was pop.
I am talking about Rock namely hard rock.
Not punk as that has a separtate section .....you see?

    Patti Smith was punk.

I like obscure stuff still but don't try to claim undue credit to an unusual band simply because it up's your cred in your minRAB to know obscure banRAB and claim they were the driving force when they were not but just as much of an influence as a book that pete townsend read or a film he saw to his songwriting.

Do you guys? When you attack my grammer or attitude it is because you do not have the hard facts and so are angry and looking to try to score back some pride in this forum.
    And running stuff down dull.

You wanted to debate who was first not who was the most popular. And I mentioned them to counter your Sabbath argument , not The Who.

    Same thing

Both copy from the other , Where do you think for example The Rolling Stones , The YardbirRAB , The Beatles & other British acts got their ideas from. I'll give you a clue it was from early American Rock n Roll & Blues artists , Not Cliff Richard & Adam Faith which was what was popular in the UK when those banRAB first started.

You do have a point there but the Beatles were listening to the floyd in Abbey road and that was their inspiration for Pepper as Lennon said.

Some of The Beatles' stuff dabbled in prog.

    Yeah I agree with that.
I think on reflection if we are all totally honest with ourselves the Who are probably the best live band ever. Certainly the first live band to do stadium rock.
I used to love "behind blue eyes" and still do but I've mellowed with age.
You could say the who were punk. I know your point about moRAB being american R&B.
Without wanting to sound in anyway patronising when you look at it rock n roll as we know it came about through black slavery and the artists that sang about what it was like. I really think that is true.
I mean all Rock n Roll. Inspired Elvis and the stones and the who and the Beatles etc etc and so on.
Watch the blues brothers when they go into Harlem or wherever to buy instruments!!! That is how it started.
But there are moments when a new era begins and all go that way. A signal post that changes the way we all go.
The Who definately made Hard Rock.

Not heard of Blue Cheer or Mountain then?

    You what sonny Jim?
    YOU WHAT???
What stadiums have they filled out and what great songs did they make?
The Who are in the hall of fame as the first rock band.
I'm talking about hard rock. Stadium rock.
Bowie and bolan were glam not hairspray rock.
I knock the US as they always take our lea and then come in late and copy our styles before big US record companies mass produce their versions of our movements.
Plus I like a good debate rather then simply agreeing.
Floyd were the first prog band.
    (I say weakly)
The WHO WERE the first Hard Rock band who inspired Zeppelin and gave them their name.

Yeah you do have a point but my talent lies in ideas and endeavors and spirit not been an editor or dictionary buff. I write off the cuff as I trust my instinct but therfore make errrors in presentation.

Also I am not a woman I am a Irishmon living in Kent!
