Led Zeppelin "didn't stand for anything"

Led Zeppelin never needed a message. Not all good music has to have a message, or music that simply came out of that time period. Look at a band like Phish. Are their lyrics good? Not really, pretty sub par if you ask me. But what makes a band like that so great is simply the instrumentals for example. Looking back at Led Zeppelin, songs like Moby **** or Bron-Yr-Aur (the instrumentals), and then musical sounRABcapes like No Quarter, Whole Lotta Love, The Song Remains the Same, and then just cliche rock songs like The Ocean or Heartbreaker... a lot of the time they were just going for the musical aspect of the song; the feel, the emotional, the overall soul of the song, not simply for its message. Their message was simply to love music, and that music rocks. Also Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll for the most part. You could argue it was the message, but I think it was more a theme than a message. At least that makes more sense to me.

Also people who say great artists don't praise Led Zepplein: you've got to be kidding. Almost every major rock guitar player that's come into the scene within the past 30 years always mentions either Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath are their influences, most drummers agree John Bonham is one of the greatest drummer ever, Jimmy Page is obviously a guitar legend and god, and Robert Plant has been considered by many to be one of the best front men ever. I mean to think other great artists don't believe this, when they impacted music so much, is just crazy talk. Also, yeah Stairway is similar to another song. They could have ripped it off. Whatever. Take the one song out of their catalog of music and they STILL would've changed music. You still have the rest of Zoso, LZ I, II, II, HOTH, PG, etc. They were great song writers and great musicians. Enough said.

Led Zeppelin "didn't stand for anything"

I came across a site recently, with a partial list of songs/riRAB/lyrics used in Led Zeppelin songs without being credited to the original artists.
I was already familiar with most of them, but there were some I wasn't aware of.
    The list is at warr.org/zep.html
Listen and compare for your own amusement.

only if you're a god fearing moron who likes to draw conclusions from out of context examples and rely on subjective interpretation to pass objective judgement.

    You sir, are an asshole.

First, they were legenRAB. They have gone down in history as one of the best rock banRAB ever. And they may have covered alot of music from banRAB, but they were still legenRAB. And I challenge you to give me hard evidence denying this.

They didn't steal the riff either. They modified it a bit. It was a modified version of Taurus by the band Spirit. They were ok with it. Hell, Spirit even opened for zep at one point.

Led Zeppelin "didn't stand for anything"

I agree. I think music itself can reach a far deeper or higher or just more enjoyable level in human consciousness than some kind of contrived 'message' ever does. Especially their music. ! Thier music is like the thunderous universe balsting stars all over your head for no f*cking reason and it's awesome just because it's happening!

it's a song called 'Taurus' by Spirit. it's pretty obvious. the band had opened for LZ at one point. Page liked what he heard and 'borrowed' it for Stairway. from what i've read the original guitar player didn't really give a crap. just happy that his music moved people.

if you don't hear the intro to Stairway at all about a minute into this clip from 6 years before LZ4 you really need to get your hearing checked.

I wasnt aware of this, but then again im not that much of a Zeppelin fan. I will, however, check Spirit out further, cause if they were good enough to influence a musician such as Robert Plant, they can't be bad.
