Because this is a secular society in name only. Make no mistake, we in the United States live in a Christian theocracy, thinly disguised as a secular republic. We have Christian slogans on our money, Christian invocations open every session of our legislative bodies, and only Christians can be elected to high office. Theocratic principles aren't written as law here, but they, and the ignorance, arrogance and bigotry they represent, are applied at every level of our government.

I do. I debate the topic with Christians all the time in public. One of the priests I know, really great man, wanted to test the faith of some of his followers, so he asked me to do a "Confession" with a few of them, then speak with them as a group in front of the congregation. I did, went great except he wont let me do it again.

I welcome it. In fact, when I become a teacher, that's something I would really like to have the students debate, but it's a shame I could lose my job.

Because too many people are worried about coming off as "not PC", religion has literally become taboo.

Why do you think people are hesitant to discuss or debate publicly about the

topic of God? Don't you think it'd be interesting to have public discussions in the vein of the "God on Trial" debates in which Jews of the concentration camps debated about the existence of God, and, if this so-called God exists, is it a personal God?

We're a secular society, so why not be open to these questions?
