Dante's Inferno did he state "Proximity without intimacy"?

In the movie "Suburban Girl" with Alec Baldwin and Sarah Michelle Geller, Archie says "Do you know Dante's definition of hell? Proximity without intimacy." Brett replies "Dante never said that." Archie and Brett then go to his library and look in the book "Inferno" by Dante. After Archie skims the pages with much perplexity, he says "well, you're right!" So, I did research and it seems every source says that Dante did state that "hell is proximity without intimacy." Was this a personal quote of Dante, or was it stated in "inferno", but they just said it wasn't in the book, for the sake of the movie? Or was it someone else that said that quote? It would make sense that Dante did say that because I know what "Inferno" is about, but I have not yet read the book to tell if that quote is there. Thanks for the help!
