Will filing my girlfriend as a dependent on my IRS tax returns affect her financial aid?
I found that this year I can claim my girlfriend as a dependent on my tax returns this year (she meets all the criteria). However last year she claimed her FAFSA as an independent and got the financial aid she needed (barely). If she files her taxes this year as a dependent, will she have to do the same with FAFSA? And if so, will they not give her anything? (Net gross is around 30,000).
