Getting Myself an Interest/Hobby Yeah the NYW programme seems to a firm favourite and I do like it but not seen it in ages, I won't bore you with the details but I have a very limited TV service being streamed from my latptop to TV so cannot get the NYW. I do plan on getting a table saw and seen this one on screwfix: Ryobi ETS-1526AL 240V 254mm Table Saw | Screwfix.com As this seems to be a good one, got good reviews and you fit a router and jigsaw to the table as well so seems to be really good. I am awaiting to see if Screwfix are getting back in stock, hopefully it is not discontinued. Cheers Col
Getting Myself an Interest/Hobby Good luck with your new hobbie Weegie, there is nothing more satisfying than making your own furniture. I have made lots around our house including all our kitchen units, fire surround, AV gear cabinets and all made in my garage. If you decide buy some power tools i highly recommend you purchase a table saw which if used right can save you alot of time and is great for cutting tenons, cross halving and butt joints. Also a cheap router is a must as a nicely finished edge detail makes for a much more professional finish, then if you really want to push the boat out i find my biscuit cutter very useful. Another tip is if you are repeating a process several times put some effort into making a jig, that way everything enRAB up the same every time. I got lots of inspiration from the new yankie workshop on discovery its worth a watch. I look forward to seeing your results

Getting Myself an Interest/Hobby If you can't buy the tiraber of the shelf the size you need. You will have to cut it down with a table saw then put it through a planner/thicknesser...Or get a joiners shop to do it for you, then you make the door... John...
Getting Myself an Interest/Hobby I have defo decided that making a door is going to be one of my first jobs (I know that maybe mental but you're only young once). I have read some talk that you need a thicknesser when doing work like doors - is this true? I need to nip out now for a while but I have a few questions for you all which I will post later. Col
Getting Myself an Interest/Hobby This is not meant to be sarcastic but I strongly suggest that your first purchase should be a good first aid kit. Woodworking tools are SHARP!
Getting Myself an Interest/Hobby I don't know much about table saws so could not comment on that one.. I would say a table saw is more useful than a band saw, you will need one to cut your tiraber to the sizes you need. You can't make everything out of 2x1, 4x2 etc... You will always have problems trying to cut straight lines with a jigsaw, they are not really made for that.. I would start out with hand-tools if i was you, a few planes, tenon saw and some chisels etc..I would also get a decent quality router (very useful) Don't buy cheap rubbish, you will spend more time trying to sharpen them than using them.. This site is useful for projects to do with a router http://www.trend-uk.com/en/UK/trend/content/content_handler.php?record_type=Projects John...
