There's some decent and reasonable ones around Tottenham Court Road. That puts you at the end of Oxford Street and on the Central Line for getting around.
The Dorcester in Park Lane, bit expensive but nice
impossible to answer without knowing a few things - what's your budget? do you want a nice hotel, or just a room to use as a base for seeing london? Avoid anywhere inside the circle line if you don't want to be ripped off.
