Yes, unlocked phones will work on other networks. But this is possible only with GSM networks. CDMA networks like Verizon cannot be unlocked and hence cannot be used with other networks. I am sure of this, because I recently suffered with a locked GSM mobile and after unlocking it through unBBlock.com I was able to swap networks.

Do unlocked cell phones work for all cell phone carriers/networks if given a SIM card?

I'm in need of a new cell phone badly, but my mom doesn't want to buy a new one from T mobile. I'm looking at unlocked/jail-broke phones on Amazon.com. But i just want to make sure. no matter who's the maker of the phone or what cell phone carrier/network (tmobile, verizon, at&t), can an unlocked phone be used on any network?
