Re: Is there any way to avoid going to a gynecologist?

Cervical Cancer is rare ladies. The average risk of cervical cancer for women is 0.68%. In the US, about 11,000 will be diagnosed will cervical cancer and 4,000 of the ENTIRE US population will die from cervical cancer.Cancer of the Cervix Uteri - SEER Stat Fact Sheets

The majority of pap tests in women 25 or younger come back as abnormal, yet damaging biopsies will show nothing abnormal.

Pelvic exams are useless. The doctor cannot feel a cyst or tumor until it is large and by that time, it's usually too late. Pelvic exams CANNOT be used to diagnose endometriosis (the main reason for painful periods). Endometriosis can only be tested using a laparoscopic surgery.

I suggest you all do your homework. All of the female gynecologists that I've met have told me they haven't had a gynecological exam since they started practicing.

Clinical breast exams (according to Michael Baum, head of the EU cancer research) has said that clinical breast exams, mammograms, and self-breast exams can actually cause breast cancer due to messing with the tissue.

Doctor Angela Raffle has said that pap tests, which scrape the outer and inner cervix using a spatula or mascara brush, may actually promote cervical cancer because it causes abnormal tissue growth (scar tissue) which causes more damage in the form of biopsies.

Research cervical cancer, Angela Raffle and Michael Baum. Make an INFORMED DECISION. Also, informed consent is missing from ALL gynecological offices. Informed Consent is legally required in every medical procedure.

And doctors wilholding birth control pills on you get the gyno exam is illegal. All that's required to get AND stay on birth control pills is a yearly blood pressure check. I haven't been to a doctor in almost 10 years and I'm still alive!

Is there any way to avoid going to a gynecologist?

It's completely normal for you both to feel this way. Sure, you're young... but I was so nervous and I didn't go til I was 18! I understand where you're coming from, I'm not going to lie to you, it's not an enjoyable experience. But it's a necessary evil.Remember that this person is a professional, they see these things everyday, they're used to it. They aren't looking at you in a sexual way at all! It's like the cashier at the grocery store when you're buying tampons/pads. They don't think about the things that you're purchasing, they just do their job. These people have dedicated their careers towards health. And do you really think that they could have made it through medical school, psych evaluations, and countless patients without being found to be a pedophile? It is a little early for you to be going to the gyno. The general rule is 18 or sexually active, whichever comes first. But your mom is... well, your mom and she makes the decisions. However, it's really important that you do go to the gyno at some point. It's a little uncomfortable, sure, but the examination is needed to be sure everything is healthy. All kinds of cancers, disorders, and diseases can be caught early with a routine exam. you risk infertility or even death by not getting an annual check up.Besides, a bunch of people are going to be looking down there if you ever give birth. And for a really long time... considering how long labor can take.Think of it this way, the uncomfortable part takes like 10 minutes... sure it might feel like forever the first couple times, but eventually you'll get used to it.Hope that helps, hunny.

Is there any way to avoid going to a gynecologist?

Hey, i have the same problem and i am 19. I have an intense fear of having my legs pried open...My doctor, today actually, said "we'll schedual a pap test" and im like No...so she said well are you having sex, and i said nope. she said then you don't need one.I don't see why you would need one before you have sex? The doctors i have spoken with told me i didn't need one if i wasn't sexually active. Some people want to be safe than sorry but i'll just wait til i have sex...ps - it's not inevitable, the doctor won't force him or herself into you

Well there are some benefits of going because if there is a problem they can find it in time, however, most women do not wanna go to the gyno, so I'm right with ya...just explain to ur mom how much you don't wanna go, and hope that she understands!

My mom didn't make me go till she found out I was having sex. I personally don't see why you'd need to go till you are a couple years older. But, it wouldn't kill you either. That said, no you can't go your whole life without going to the gyno. Well, I guess you could but you'd be forgoing them catching any issues before they become big problems. You'll also have to see one if you ever decide to have kids.Tell your mom you want a woman doctor. I don't like men looking there either. But, man or woman..they've seen so many woman parts that it isn't a big deal to them.In many states if you are under a certain age your mom has to be in the room with you. That puts a whole other level of awkward into the mix. Make sure your mom knows her boundries if she has to be there...my mom saw the whole show and I was not a happy camper.

Is there any way to avoid going to a gynecologist?

You can, but I'd suggest not.First of all, not all gyno's are creepy and not all are men. I have a very awesome female gyno who is only about ten years older than me.Second, for your own health and benefit, seeing a gyno is good. Sure, it's uncomfortable and weird, the first time is extremely awkward...but think about it - this is a professional who sees the same body parts nearly every day. It's really not so bad. Only once a year, and very short.

Is there any way to avoid going to a gynecologist?

You know, there are female gynecologists...you've got to see one eventually, it's just a good idea and is very important, whether or not you've had sex. If you're uncomfortable try asking people who see one regularly what they think about theirs, try to get a suggestion or a recommendation before you go to see one. It's better to find one on your own after some research and find one you like, rather than waiting until (God forbid) a problem comes along and you've got to see someone you don't know anything about, like someone at a college health center, because it's an emergency. I think you've got to do it eventually if you want to stay as healthy as you can.
