If you upgrade your iPhone 3GS to iOS 4, You will lose your jailbreak and unlock. Your iPhone will automatically get locked to it's previous network. To avoid this hassle, you need to unlock your iPhone using any permanent unlocking method. For example, You can visit ProUnlocking.Com and get the remote unlocking service. This method of unlocking an iPhone is safe, simple, affordable, quick and permanent. It doesn't require a jailbreak too. Good luck.
