i would argue that it's not so much abandoning their virtues, it's more along the lines of societal standards. Call it religious if you want, but there was a time in history (I assume you are speaking of American Women) in which they didn't have the same rights as men and were forced to be (at some level) subservient. Those have all but been erased and women are free to do as they please without society painting them as heretics. There are a distinct difference between men and women poly and mono wise, but society plays a huge part in determining gender roles. It's also not a matter of superior and inferior in my opinion, but rather a mishmash of nature vs. nurture. The lines have simply become more blurred as to what makes a man and what makes a woman.
really good..........

Monogamy is completely natural for females and completely UNNATURAL for males (in the human species). Women do not want to share their man, but men wish they could be with many women without being punished. I.E. Tiger Woods.
It's all about levels of consciousness. The higher one takes him/herself "up the ladder" of consciousness the less he/she desires things of the flesh or material world. The more self indulgent a person is, the less single minded they and the more scattered and attached to flesh or material world. Ancient cultures have always known this.
Monogamy is learned. It's not natural. What makes you think the concept of monogamy isn't about females? During the caveman times, a woman stealing another woman's husband and sleeping with multiple men who could provide for her was common. Even before the institution of marriage was founded, this was something 'normal' in the society. So no discussion of monogamy is complete without women's representation.
Made them superior? As women and men move closer towards being "equal" (in American society at least), they're bound to do the same kinds of things. In the 50's, a woman might get beaten to a pulp for cheating on her husband, and nobody would bat an eye. Nowadays that would be a huge problem, and she will just divorce him and get half his stuff. The playing field is more level in certain respects, so women are allowed to be the same degree of scumbag as men are.
