95 sidekick jx, won't start. no dash lights. batt. is good. starter replaced about 1.5 yrs. ago.?

For about a year now I notice that when I hit the high beams (passing lights) the electrical shuts down for a split second. The radio goes off and at night the head lights will blink off. Then it will continue to work as normal afterwards. No loose connections that I could find and no burn marks that I could see. Hitting the starter with a pipe did no good. No dash lights when I turn the key. The warning buzzer that the key is still in the ignition when I open the door sometimes works, sometimes not. Battery is good (12.4 volts), starter was replaced bout a year and a half ago. Gotta keep this old Suzuki going as I'm on fixed income and can't afford any other notes. Thanks for any info and suggestions.
