SOPA I know first hand that megaupload operates substantially as a piracy site adhering only to the absolute minimum DCMA requirements. piracy notices are adhered to and content is removed. However they have no algorithms in place to ensure that the content is not simply reuploaded... With all of the reasonably priced digital media outlets around these days... I see little reason to make it easier for sites like mega upload to operate in this fashion. Still, this doesnt seem like the solution... an updating of DCMA does... (slight tweak to require algorithmic identification and removal of copyrighted content, like youtube does) I also think holywood and music industry should be forced to offer paid digital distribution of their content worldwide if they want protections in the digital world.

SOPA You'd be surprised, they said they postponed the meeting to pass it until next year. Then set up a "secret" meeting to pass it on the 21st, under everyones noses. Everyone found out somehow... the government is tricking us and trying to pass this, and they may very well get away with it. Do you really think even 10% of the people voting on this even really understand the content of this bill? I would not be surprised if it was passed or not.

SOPA I watched it earlier, for those who are to lazy to watch it, congress wants to pass a law that gets rid of piracy on the internet, but by doing that sites like reddit, youtube, vimeo, facebook, etc are in jeopardy and may be shut down. The rest is the British guy saying shit about why and what it will do but that is it in a nutshell.
