F Connector at the end of my tv cable will not screw onto television?

The little gold piece at the end of my tv cable, broke off, and I screwed the connector back on the cable itself, but when I push the wire in the back of the tv slot, the end of the connector just keeps turning and turning, and does not screw on at all. It was working earlier tonight, but now all of a sudden, I can't get the darn thing screwed back on. It's an older flat screen, non hd tv, called Apex that I got about 8 years ago or so. How do I get it connected again? I have a VCR also, don't know if I can connect it that way or not? I have the gold piece, or F connector screwed on perfectly on the cable itself, but it will not screw onto the back of the tv? Please help.
