Unlock HTC Desire on orange?

Hi,

Just brought a phone of Ebay. HTC Desire locked on the orange network. Contacted 5 companys with my sim, all saying that my IMEI is not on there database and so can't generate an unlock code. So I ring Orange up and they say I have to register with them and then be with them for 3 months untill they will send me the unlock code which is outrageous. I am still on a o2 contract £20pm as I lost my contract phone and so needed a new one. I have 1 year left on it and really would like to get this phone unlocked. Any Ideas?
