I'm 17, and I've just finished an ABRSM diploma in piano, so I've gone through theory, and I can read both clefs. Now I'm finished with the piano, I was wondering whether I'd be able to teach myself violin - I have a piano to check tuning, but I also have perfect pitch so I'd know whether the note was in tune or not. I was thinking of teaching myself violin for a few months before I hit university, where I can get proper lessons, but I'd quite like to have the basics sorted first. I won't be at home much for the rest of the summer, so I can't really get lessons over the summer.
How feasible is this? I've done grade 5 theory etc, and I definitely want to learn a new instrument, but my only prerequisites for it are that it's in either treble or bass clef, and it's non transposing. Violin seemed like the natural option.
What do you think?
