Question for people that know anything about electronics or batteries?

I have a baby monitor system and the camera plugs into the wall. I want to hook it up to batteries so that it is wireless. The input of the a/c adapter for the camera is 120VAC and the output is 12VDC. Would it work if i cut the 2 wires going to the black a/c adapter box thing, put one wire on the end of 8 connected AA batteries and the other wire on the other end of the 8 connected AA batteries?

First off you need to have a compartment for the batteries. Once get one put the 8 AA batteries(or any other portable 12V output) in the comparment and run one wire from the postive output to the positive input in the camera> now do the same thing with the negative.
    OR
You can leave the cut the wires from the box and leave them in the camera and add a portable 12V output to that. which ever one is better.
