    Mr. Bungle? Meshuggah? Avant-Garde Metal!

    we're going to have to agree to disagree but where you present valid reasons for your opinions i don't think it's going to be an issue. then again i'm torn between 'angel dust' and 'album of the year' when it comes to FNM.

    like janzoon i prefer 'California' over everything else released by bungle. i don't see it as so much of a pop album but their chaos was applied to a different level. with DV the chaos is applied to each song, you never know where they're going or how long they're going for.

    on the other hand California's tracks are more refined and cohesive but you never know what the next one is going to be like. when you look at the album as a whole the collection of its songs shows the chaos of the band at work.

    i don't mind clones and worshippers but ultimately they sound weak to my ears since they're forever trying to sound like someone else and never actually doing their own thing.

    I love that album! I hear what you're saying, but wouldn't you just like to see them live at least once? Honestly, I'm thrilled about them getting back together, and I also love what he's come out with since FNM broke up. Like you, I'd like to hear more what he's got, but I believe its possible for him to put that same energy into FNM.

    Edit: Check out the Mike Patton link above for some more of his side projects, if you haven't already that is. Pranzo Oltranzista is ****ing brilliant.

    christ mother****ing almighty i posted that link four pages ago and you didn't pay any attention to it then. but listen to it, if you don't have it i'll be glad to up it for you.

    i don't know if TDEP would fit into this thread, they have a very stratified structure to their songs. the only thing they really have is a link to mike patton and i think the material they produced without him is vastly superior (their last LP was orgasmic).

    Very good album.

    Mr. Bungle is my favorite in this topic though, and one of my favorite banRAB in general. Disco Volante is an absolute classic.

    here's the thing though.... when's the last time you saw a new release from Ipecac recorRAB (Patton's label, the one that puts out all his side projects...)

    FNM = $$$.

    I only have Nothingface by Voivod but I've never liked it. Is it worth bothering with the rest?

    If you can't get on with nothing face then I would doubt if you could get into anything else. I love Voivod personally and have done for years.
