    The Official Nirvana/Kurt Cobain Thread

They all commited the same crime as you, its no excuse, if you got bored with them thats fine, saying you dont like them is one thing, simply dismissing their importance to rock, calling them horrible and bashing their fans calling them idiots is another, and attacking someone for their personality is a lame reason to attack their band, while we are at it lets attack Pink Floyd because Roger Waters is a jerk.

    The Official Nirvana/Kurt Cobain Thread

I've noticed of late that this is not anything profound to question, there are plenty of people who'd say they were not. However, the question for me originated somewhere back when I started listening to Pearl Jam. Because I'd been so used to associating Nirvana with basically erabodying grunge music, when hearing PJ I thought to myself, hey, this doesn't sound very "grungey" at all really - it just sounRAB like classic old-school rock with a rougher edge to it and a vocalist with a serious throat infection.

I made a post to that effect here. I was, to my surprise, told that actually it's PEARL JAM that pretty much define grunge. That old rock + a strong male vocalist and dirty/rough recording aesthetic was really, in summary, what "grunge" was. Listening to a few other banRAB of the early grunge movement, I realized that this claim was pretty much spot on.

In that case, where does this leave Nirvana? They don't really sound like any of those banRAB. They're much more punky, and furthermore don't seem to derive from old rock at all. The punk influences coupled with the Pixies-esque abrasive melodic style seems to indicate that Nirvana owed their origins more to late 80s indie rock than anything else.

Looking up a bit on the topic I've found that a nuraber of writers tend to separate Nirvana from all that "Seattle-sound" business. I'm half inclined to agree. Where do others stand on the matter?

I do get it. Boo boo's blocked you so he can't see what you are saying yet you are still arguing with him. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out, YOU should know that.

Anyways all the talk about Smells Like Teen Spirit. Airplay killed it. It wasn't really a brilliant song to begin with and I can't see why it is Nirvana's most popular song. It doesn't have anything that no other Nirvana songs have. The lyrics are stupid, it has the slow-to-fast guitar playing that so many other Nirvana songs have. I guess it was a word of mouth thing, and the video probably did it a lot of favours aswell.

Wow this is so very stupid. It's basically a blind guy arguing with a durab guy. Boo Boo can't see what Don is saying which makes him blind, and Don is durab because.... erm.... he's Don...
