Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Writer Peter Craig Interviewed

Funkatron, if he's going to express an opinion like that and say well Dragon Ball isn't suited for live action and Bebop is because of new Star Trek and Firefly that's a pretty ignorant argument.

So what if the last two Trek movies were crap. What does that prove?

Wrath of Khan came out 27 years ago and that's an excellent Star Trek movie.

I'm just not sure what your point is.

    A) She B) I said I never thought DBZ was well-suited for live action period. That's far from ignorant. It's a fantasy with some crazy antics that would be very hard to capture without looking cheesy. That doesn't apply with Bebop, though. And my other point is that Bebop seems more well-suited to live action due to the precedent of decent space flicks. Firefly and Star Trek were the first examples of decent space flicks that came to mind. Again, not seeing the ignorance.

As long as it isn't as bad as Evolution, I'm satisfied.

Star Trek and Firefly are really nothing like Bebop besides being set in space.

Well, its an argument quite a few people have. DBZ has a lot of fantasy elements that some beleive can't translate well to live action. Heck, that's probably the reason writers and directors feel the need to make changes to it. Where as CB is pretty much an live action Western movie animated, which is one of its many appeals. People who don't normally like anime like Bebop because of that, imho. Therefore, it should be easy to adapt it with everything intact.

PHW is also touching on the fact that there is somewhat of a negative stigma of sci-fi in our culture, mostly because of what I like to call "technobable syndrome". People shy away from sci-fi elements, so it might be a fear to some fans that they may change a few things to lessen the sci-fi elements of CB to suit audiences. SHE was trying to say that with successful movies like the new Star Trek and Firefly/serenity, Sci-Fi can be done right if written correctly.

EDIT: Funk pretty much got it.

I'm feeling a little more at ease after reading this. At least it seems that the right people are in place. And Sunrise's strict involvement is encouraging too. I'm still extremely apprehensive about Mr. Reeves playing Spike, but it sounRAB like they got a very good person to write the script for this. The fact that they are working so closely with the Japanese companies does lend comfort.

Of course I am going to see this, and hope for the best.

The interview told me that Cowboy Bebop is in good hand in terms of writing. However, with acting and direction I am kinda wary (especially with Reeves.)

Even if they got Orson Welles to direct this it would still be a pointless film. But Hollywood has to find as many sources to rip off as they can since nobody there is capable of creating an original concept.

... that does rustle up some hope. O_O

Good to know Watanabe-sensei's involved - it at least won't suck horribly if he's poking at people. Well, unless the final cut is done while he isn't looking. :P

I hope they get Yoko Kanno for the music - there's really no reason not to.
