I think it's normal, on my E66, the screen is the same, it looks like it's off, but if you shine a light to it, you can read everything on the home screen.
I wouldn't worry about it.
With OLED screens, this is just fine - massive lifetime, very (VERY) low power consumption that is almost directly proportional to the amount of screen lit up, and brightness thereof!
My Sereies 3 HD TiVo has an OLED display back when OLED was NEW. This device has been on 24/7 for 4 years. The hard drive died last month, requiring an upgrade, but the OLED is bright as day 1.
I have checked all the settings and can't find where to disable it. Now that it's night time I kind of like this, looks kinda cool lit up slightly. As long as it doesn't eat up the battery I'm okay with it =]
I am pretty sure I have gotten my screen to turn off. What all I did was set the screen saver to none. Now when I lock the keys the screen turns off. I double checked it in a dark room and I don't see any level of back lighting.
Not sure why I didn't think of that, I finally found that option under themes and am able to to turn it off now tks
