Google chrome won't allow me to see my most recent history, and doesn't keep track of any history, whats wrong?

There is no history what so ever or evidence of it, there's only the most recent closed tabs. In the wrench area there is nothing exempt preferences and there's no way to change the history.
No duh history is there, but as I have said it's empty and nothing is saved there......
