In August Josh Bell performed Vivaldi's The Four Seasons with the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl. An inspired, high-energy and flawless performance, according to the reviews. I wasn't there but caught the K-USC re-broadcast Friday evening.

Still, those in attendance witnessed something unique, something few (if any) had ever witnessed while attending a performance of a symphony. And something I haven't seen in the performances I've attended over the years. And I'm not talking about the prized Stradivarius or the recently refurbished original Stradivarius bow he performs with. Or oddities like mechanical or technical difficulties. The uniqueness was pre-planned.

Something else made this performance unique to this viewing audience.

To those of you familiar with Joshua Bell's more recent public performances this question should be an easy one. The rest of you may be wondering if new precedents are being set when you understand what I'm referring to.
