It wasn't just an over the air update? Seems weird that they wouldn't just push it out. For any one who does want to root make sure you DON'T accept OTA updates or you'll generally lose the ability to root until another exploit is found.

Yeah... it wasnt over the air which was whack.
Hey if any of you wanted an emulator that is easy to use i suggest the Tiger ones. i have The GBA,GBC,NES, and SNES. all work fine with Rom Gripper. i have the Droid X by the way.
Swype is tha shit.
Yeah, now I remeraber all the finer points - like free tethering and/or hotspot. Being able to remove the stupid nascar and nfl apps, etc - which would be especially helpful now, because I keep getting a low storage warning on the internal memory, which fracks with my gmail app. Before the first OTA update on the device there was a pseudo-root program called unrEVOked, and I was gonna do that, but then I updated and that rendered it useless.
I was going to wait until I got closer to my 2-year renewal before I attempted to fully root, for fear of bricking and being without a decent phone for a long time. Plus, without having first-hand experience with a rooted device, I'm just not all that compelled to want to improve this phone - its still awesome AFAIC. I guess maybe I'll check out some youtube videos on it or something.
So you're up to date on 2.3.3? If you turn your phone off, then hold the Volume Up button while booting you'll go to the rabroadoot screen. At the top if it says S-OFF then you're still good to go. You could roll back to Froyo (2.2) and then get root access back if you really wanted to. I can't even do that b/c the current rabroadoot 2.16 with S-ON completely stops you from doing anything. It is super handy for getting rid of bloatware and having other cool stuff devs add in. I know one ROM I was looking at added an HDR and panoramic option to the camera, 1080p netflix, along with all sorts of other stuff.
He's got rooting on lock.
I really want to root my droid x but am getting confused
DAT TECHNICAL JARGON
