Sweden won the 2012 Eurovision song contest of course, and I heard them say on the show that the winning song 'Euphoria' has already been a hit in several European countries.

However some years ago I plainly remember Britain holding their local contest to decide which British song would be that years Eurovision entry for UK. Then they stated it was one of their rules that the songs up for the position must have never been played in public before -otherwise it would be disqualified.

This plainly contrasts with Euphoria. So whats changed? Have we given up this 'new song' rule? If so when did this happen? I didnt recognise UKs 2012 song so assumed we are still singing 'original' songs.
