BOSTON - Massachusetts Democrats are gathering for their party's state convention in Springfield, where delegates will weigh in on the U.S. Senate race.
Harvard Law School professor Elizabeth Warren is expected to easily win the party's endorsement at Saturday's gathering. But Marisa DeFranco, an immigration attorney from Middleton, would also qualify for the September primary ballot by picking up the support of at least 15 percent of the delegates.
Democratic state party chair John Walsh has predicted that DeFranco will meet that threshold.
Democrats will be trying to unseat Republican Sen. Scott Brown, who won a special election in 2010 to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.
Gov. Deval Patrick is among the other party leaders scheduled to speak during the convention.
