the smallest living unit is a... cell or molecule cuz im not sure lol and the smallest unit of matter that can enter into chemical combination is a... atom or molecule thanks

Well that depends on your definition of living...

First, if you define living a just a self replicating object, the first forms of so called "life" were self replicating proteins. Very simply put, these proteins just copied themselves. Granted, I personally highly doubt they did anything else, although we may never know.

If you define living as a self sustaining organism with all that metabolism jazz, then probably the cell would be your answer.
