Me and my best friend want to do a hiking trip next year. Generally we are not very athletic people, so nothing too extreme. We would not really be in a hurry and would want to enjoy nature. We were thinking about doing the Machu Pucchu trail in Peru but it's only a 4 day trail, the longer one (which takes 7 days) requires you be accompanied by a guide.

Where have you hiked for a week or longer that you enjoyed?

We want to do this without a guide! That is very important. But, we don't want to go some where that would be completely deserted either. Just some where we could safely go on, without a guide, that if for some reason we did need help we would be able to find someone some what close by. Typically this trail would take us at least 7 days to go up. Although having a way back down would be appreciated it is not really necessary, we wouldn't mind spending 7 more days working our way back down through the same or even better a different trail.
