I've been rating this guy for years, brilliant musician.
I love my John Frusciante...But he is not the best of the generation, maybe one of the best but certaintly not the best.
I sure wish the man would put out another album, im thinking about daily now.
depenRAB on whether you prefer drugged out experiments or well crafted tunes.
He's not the best as far as I'm concerned but he is very good. I think his strongest competition is Mark Knopfler
If your saying his solo stuff is boring, i could see how you could think that, its not for everyone. But if your saying his work with RHCP is boring then i dont get you at all. His guitar playing is ALL over the place, and changes each album. He has TONs of effects and most of the songs (at least before stadium arcadium) are very wild. ex: around the world, purple stain, otherside...etc
edit:i made the hendrix comparison because he is mainly influenced by him, and has taken many methoRAB of playing that hendrix started and expanded greatly on them
Too hard to list favorites
It varies so much
But of the top of my head...
No offense to Robert Johnson, who has the coolest story in Rock and Roll history and his place is secure as an all0time great but I can't relate much to his guitar style it's so archaic now 70 years later. Anway my all-time favs
1. Hendrix
2. B.B King
3. Jimmy Page (Although I'd rank him 5-10 at best in terms of greatness)
4. Eric Clapton
5. Stevie Ray Vaughn
6. This kid I met named Dave Parrot (An insane virtuoso) can make an acoustic guitar and harmonica sound like a six piece band. He's way to insane to make an album though, just gets loaded and jams out at bars I guess. Also he can play Hendrix stuff twice as fast and as clean or dirty as you ask him to, I've never seen anything like it.
7. Dwayne Allman
8. Tom Morrelo
9. Brian May (not that he's great, just never played a song I didn't enjoy hearing and\or playing)
10. 6002 way tie.
Agreed - his lead vocals are decent as well. Here is Frusciante covering How Deep Is Your Love. He pulls off those vocals pretty well in the second half.
On of the best if not the best guitarist today. But pretty underatted.
