all the systems are dependent on each other. if one doesn't work right, the others won't either. you should not exercise after you eat. your body only has enough blood for one process at a time. muscles need blood for maximum efficiency and the stomach and intestines need blood to digest and absorb nutrients. test the breathing of your subjects when they first start to eat better and exercise and when the 5 days is over and see if they breathe better, deeper.
