I found some cheap aquarium gravel for my tank at a wal-mart, the fish don't seem to know the difference between the expensive brand and the cheap knock-off.

well if your getting rocks from outside you should splash a bit of vinigar on it and if it fizzes DONT USE IT but if it doesnt fizz well then you can use it. Just get a scrubbing brush and scrub as hard as you can with it all over about 10 times with a little bleach. once youve done that hose it off then let it dry in the sun till dried then repeat the prosses 1 more time once thats done you hafto get a pot of boiling water and drop the rocks in the pot with it being completly covered in water then you bring it to the boing and let it boil for about 30-40 minutes once thats done hose it off realy well. and thats it to make sure it wont harm your fish put a bit off your tank water in a clean bucket and do the general tests of the water then drop your rock in and leave it over night then come back the next day and do the tests again if they havent chaged very much then you can use it in your aquarium but just to make sure test you tank water againg a week after putting it in just to make sure.
