One complaint about instant runoff is that it doesn't necessarily elect the candidate that would win in any race.

Let's look at Florida. Charlie Crist is the centrist candidate and the one that would win both head-to-head against Meek and Rubio. But who wants a centrist candidate all the time? That's no fun, and neither is approval voting since it always gives centrist candidates the edge.

What is desirable is something similar to runoff voting but not as costly.
