If a law is passed in your city, who is it that passed that bill? Is it a city...

...council? ? If it is a city counsil, who elects the members of the council? If you don't like a law that was passed in your city, how can you get the people who voted for it out of office?

For instance, a smoking ban was created for Houston that doesn't allow people to smoke in bars. Who passed that law? It wasn't up to the residents to vote for it. How can you find out who passed it? Are those people up for election? If so, how can you find out who they were so that you can vote against them the next time they are up for election? I mean, you shouldn't vote for people who pass laws if they are passing laws that you don't agree with... right?

Good luck Calif. has the strictest smoking laws around..no smoking on beaches or piers..no smoking in parks and some cities banned smoking outside your home...and other cities banned smoking in homes that attach to others such as condos or apartments.
You will not be able to change any laws regarding smoking...it's a health issue and the courts always side with the city or state.

In my city, yes, the city council passes laws called ordinances.
