3 pin headset in 4 pin connecter

I have a Nokia 2600 Classic, which I believe has the 4 pin headset connector. However, if I plug in a headset with a 3 pin connector, it works. Will I break anything by using a 3 pin headset in the 4 pin socket?

3 pin headset in 4 pin connecter

I'm no expert, and I don't to the pin assignment of the connector, but if you haven't blown anything yet and it doesn't dial out or something whenever you plug it in then I'd say go on using it.

The 3 connections that you are using are common, left audio and right audio. The 4th connection is for the push-button on some headsets.
