Thread: I want a sporting dog but my mom hates them, she wants a protective dog?

OK. I have owned a Black Lab before and loved him, sadly we had to give him up. My mom never really did like him. She wants a Rottweiler or Doberman. I want a dog from the sporting group. She wants a dog that can protect us due to the fact my dad is not living with us. I want a sporty dog that learns quickly, swims and is active all day long. Is there a dog that maybe combines both(purebred, my mom wants).

Purebred dogs are more prone to genetic deformities and medical conditions.

We had a black lab/rott mix once. She was awesome.

a dog has to be TRAINED to be protective. Do research on breeds plus towards home life. I know a Doberman that is a pussy cat. Breed doesn't mean dangerous.. if so, then all pit bull would be killed.
When you find prospective breeds, then talk it over with your mom and come to a choice.
