Kids assuming common law spouses last name in Canada?

My partner and I are living common law for the past few years. We use hyphenated last names and would like her minor children to be able to use them as well. Is this legal in BC, Canada and does anyone have a link to canadian common law couple's "rights" (not just the definition) online? Thanks!

In the States, their dad has to approve. What would you think if your kids had another man's last name?
