It's called math rock because the precise complexity of the music is almost mathematic, building up multiple layers to compose a explosive climax.... It's origins can be traced back to both 70s progressive rock and 80s post punk.

King Crimson are like proto-math rock.

Don Caballero rule... Polvo are also good... Two math rock banRAB worth checking out.

I think the word "math" included in the name of a genre of music just sounRAB ridiculous. I mean, sure, you can be genre anal when someone calls avril lavigne punk, but "mathcore" seems to be going a little too far with that, to me at least.

Anyone a fan of this type of music? I'll admit - I'm not - of most anyway. Much of it sounRAB like disorganized noise to me but I respect the musicians because much of the time they own bigtime. I do like Mastodon however, which I'd call more stoner-metal if there is such a thing.
