Why is bell able to charge people under contracts the new "Digital Service Fee" without a corrisponding rebate. I thought the whole idea of contracts was that the price could not change until it was finished?

normally, yes...with Bell, it means you must keep your service active for that duration of time...there are no guarantees of anything other than a cancellation fee if you don't keep your service for that length of time.
Since speculation seems to be the main theme of many threads I would now suggest the new Digital fee will be partially used to cover the cost of switching from current HD receivers to the proposed new ones in 2009 for subscribers.
$72 a year to warranty a $10 wire. I would walk on the wild side here and drop this insurance.
As posted above it most likely being charged ro cover the cost of the Nagra 3 card swap. They charge a 1$ fee for a while before the Nargra 2 card swap, it was called a system upgrade fee I believe.
Bell writes: "Please note that commencing on your January 2008 bill statement, a monthly $3 digital service fee will apply to certain programming packages."
Does anyone know which packages it will apply to and if customers under contract are price protected until the end of their contract?
i am not paying full price (as i already mentioned) and keep in mind BEV, for the entire year of 2007 added a net 2,000 customers...there's a reason for that...that's my point.
if you are all unhappy with BEV jump ship to Rogers.
I can't because I am in freakin Shaw country. Yeah...NOT.
I have both BEV/Shaw(i get free full cable because i have extreme internet/phone) and prefer BEV over Shaw however I want Rogers .
I still remember the good old days when Vancouver had Rogers. I remember lauging at my friends in North Vancouver because they had Shaw and didn't get the KTLA, WSBK, & WPIX.
I want Rogers for the sports pak and adult channels.
HDTV is overrated for me. I don't need it that badly. Not sure how Rogers is with HDTV. But if Rogers is behind BEV in HDTV that is fine with me.
I was at the Bell World store today and the guy working there told me there is going to be another price increase set for January'08. Anyone know if this is true???
The only thing they will ask you in order to transfer the receiver is that the person who gave you the receiver had called in and said that he gave you the machine
