I can't seem to get Gnutella to connect to any of the IP finding hosts. I am using Zone Alarm, and it may prevent me from using Gnutella. Is there anyway around that without using ZoneAlarm?

I should also mention that I'm on cable modem if that helps
Try using a newer client.
Are you behind a firewall?
I believe I am behind a firewall.
I am using my personal computer at home with cable modem. I do use ZoneAlarm which is a firewall program, but have given Gnutella free access. I've also tried with Gnotella and same thing happens. In addition, I'vv e turned off ZoneAlarm and still cannot get connected.
I use AT&T's roadrunner service which I believe has a firewall of its own, but I'm not sure.
Any ideas?
how do you mean by a newer client?
I'm using Zonealarm as well and it works (with Gnotella, I guess also with other clients?). I can connect to others, others can connect with me, up- and downloading works fine - I can even download from firewalled (by hardware!) comps making push requests. It is necessary (at least for others to connect to you) to "allow server" for gnotella in zonealarm.
As you said it wouldn't work without zonealarm, I guess your problem is somewhere else - but now you know for sure (computers and "for sure"? ) that zonealarm is not the cause.
interestingly enough, I am able to get Gnotella to sort of work by getting an actual IP address and putting it, although i haven't been able to download anything yet.
However, "gnutellahosts" and "gnet" never work for me. Any ideas?
I just recently got into Gnotella since Scour went down, and I cannot connect to any IP's either. I am on a 1.5Mbps DSL connection, also behind a firewall. My problem is, everytime I hit the connections tab, I try to add the IP that is listed in the box next to the Add tab, and it disconnects in 2-3 seconds...Anyone have any clue? Do I need to set my IP to a fixed one, instead of a dynamic??
Any help is greatly appreciated

Did you use "gnutellahost.com:6346" as such?
Your static IP is not necessary. But if you know what your current IP address is, I have found that putting in the configuration works better than using a fake, because PUSHes are then able to get back to your machine.
