    Recurring Ovarian cysts

I keep getting ovarian cysts. I am 14 and have had 6 over the last year and had 3 removed.
    -I have a good diet, i do 17 hours of swimming a week, i weigh 8stone 3 and i am 5ft 1 so i have no weight issues.

I was given birth control pill (microgynon) at 13 in the hope of stopping them, but no such luck!

Is this likey to be PCOS? Do i ask the doctor?!

    Sizes of cysts:
    1) 6cm
    2) 7.5cm
    3) 12 cm (first to be removed)
    4) 11 cm (also removed)
    5) 5cm
    6) 13cm (Latest one to be removed)

And the one i have now is : 8cm

    WHATS HAPPENING?!

Urm also i have 5 cysts on my fallopian tube is this likey to cause pain or not?!

    Recurring Ovarian cysts

    Hello Jessica,

Poor you !! Having to have three surgeries in such a short period of time must not have been fun.

From what I have read, the pill is not very effective against ovarian cysts and the newest generation of BC pill are not strong enough to keep women from ovulating. This means that women still ovulate while on the pill (ie. grow follicular cysts) but birth control is maintained by thinning out the uterus with progesterone (one cannot conceive if the uterus is not ready).

Since you are only 14 years old, you have probably not had very many cycles as of yet. I have a feeling that your body just needs time to adjust to a mature menstrual cycle. What happened to the cysts that they did not remove ? Did they go away on their own ? If so, it is most likely that your body is growing larger than normal follicular cysts whilst trying to adjust itself. Perhaps in a couple of years your ovaries will have adjusted and you will settle into a normal routine with average size cysts (1-2 cms usually).

You may want to be tested for PCOS, just to be sure.

I hope things change for the better for you. Hang in there and take good care of yourself.

    Estria
