I'm doing a poetry assignment for english, and we need to compare a poem to the themes and "universal truths" of Life of Pi. I wanted more opinions, and I may be able to find a poem better suited for this assignment, but I really enjoy this one. If you haven't read the poem, here it is:

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze

Continuous as the stars that shine
and twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
in such a jocund company:
I gazed - and gazed - but little thought
what wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

My opinion is that the poem is talking about a better time in Wordsworth's life, when everything was innocent and happy. He enjoys letting his mind go back to that time and thats where he would like to spend the rest of his life, to let his heart dance with the daffodils. This is like Pi, his life was so much more pleasant before the ship sank, with his family and his innocence still intact. All of that was lost, and he would like to spend the rest of his life in the memories he has of his family and his life before the tragic accident.

What do you think?
