Agreed. I never got the Norman jokes at all. On the other hand, I did chuckle when it was revealed that Peckham wasn't included in the Domesday Book because Del Boy threatened to reveal the chief commissioner's dalliances with the young, female peasants in the area.

Actually, I liked the first episode (the one where Del has to flog some 'Old English vinyl' briefcases). It was also the episode when we were introduced to Trigger: (Rodney) "Why do they call him Trigger? Does he carry a gun?" (Del) "Nah...it's 'cos e looks like an orse." In fact, for me, OFAH was at it's best before Cassandra and Raquel joined the show. There were still some classic episodes, but overall I felt it gradually became more family oriented and sanitised, thus losing some of its grimey edge.

As for this show, I've got mixed feelings about it. As a fan, I'm worried it could go tits up in a big way, being poorly written, with the characters bearing little resemblence to the ones we know today, and the jokes and situations a lot less funny than in OFAH (there's little denying that Sullivan lost his touch with GGG) or, even worse, with poor research and recollection, it might contain information which is factually inconsistent with what we have been told in OFAH, potentially undermining the whole 'franchise'.

Then again, it might be well written and acted, and hopefully, we could get some insights into how the characters developed into the ones we know from the show, perhaps even a few nuggets to clear up minor points of confusion in OFAH. Should also be interesting to see characters that we've heard about but never (or rarely) seen, such as Del's mum and dad, and Grandad in his pomp. Seeing the actual incidents that have been talked about in OFAH (like Grandad's and Uncle Alberts falling out, for example) should also be a treat.

I'll certainly be watching it - although I'll keep the Turkish slippers to hand if my toes start curling too much.

Got to admitt Nichlas is very un-convincing in this! Just like when the guy who play's Cleggy in Last Of The Summer Wine was as his Dad in First Of The Summer Wine!

Thought this was very good. I don't think a series would be right somehow though. The strong point of the show for me was the story, rather than the writing, although some of the gags were good (I want you to be my right hand ).

What evidence is there of Nicholas Lyndhurst's "acting" skills? He did a lot of smiling when young. He does a lot of frowning now older.

Unfortunatly I think a lot of people particularly OFAH fans will be disappointed with this. From the clips I've seen it seems to have a distinct air of the old show "Shine on Harvey Moon" about it. Drama with a few comedic moments in it.

Well I'm really enjoying it, I knew it wasn't going to be pure comedy but a comedy drama.

I think JS has done well to keep true to the references made in OFAH.
